New Assistant Chief Judge Appointed in the Edmonton Region
Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta Derek Redman is pleased to announce the appointment of Judge Clifton Purvis as Assistant Chief Judge of the Edmonton Region starting on May 30, 2022.
Judge
Purvis was appointed to The Provincial Court of Alberta, Edmonton Region, in
July 2014. He attended the University of Alberta, receiving a Bachelor of Arts
in 1986 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1989. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in
1990 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2014.
Prior to
his appointment, Judge Purvis spent much of his prosecuting career with Alberta
Crown Prosecution Services moving from General Prosecutions to Special
Prosecutions in Edmonton where he served as the Coordinator of Organized Crime
Prosecutions for five years. During this time, he conducted many complex
organized crime prosecutions throughout Alberta. Judge Purvis also acted
as the Executive Director of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT)
where he was responsible for the independent investigation of Alberta’s police
officers.
