All criminal court appearances start in the Alberta Court of Justice. The Court of Justice Criminal Division handles first appearances, entry of pleas, bail hearings, preliminary inquiries, the trials and the sentencing of all prosecutions where the Crown proceeded by summary conviction and the majority of those where the proceedings were by Indictment.

• What you need to know if you have been charged with a crime - If you are charged with a crime, understanding how the criminal justice system works will help you to make decisions about how to deal with your situation.
• Preliminary Inquiries - Preliminary inquiries are hearings that take place before trial where the prosecution must show that there is sufficient evidence to justify proceedings to trial in the Court of King's Bench.

• Calgary Indigenous Court - The Calgary Indigenous Court provides a culturally relevant, restorative, and holistic system of justice for Indigenous individuals, including offenders, victims and the community harmed by an offender’s actions.

• Remote Access to the Edmonton Remand Centre - This project is intended to facilitate defence counsel interviews with clients at the Edmonton Remand Centre (“ERC”). It is a joint initiative involving the Court of Justice, Corrections and CTS.
