Amendments to the Matrimonial Property Act (now the Family Property Act) and the Alberta Rules of Court, which came into effect on January 1, 2020, have resulted in a number of new and revised forms to commence or respond to claims for division of family property in the Court of Queen’s Bench.

It is the responsibility of litigants or their counsel to ensure that they are fully complying with the new requirements. However, to ensure continued access to justice for litigants, a grace period will be observed until March 1, 2020, before the requirement that the new and revised forms be used is strictly enforced.
