Open Court Principle

Access to Hearings

Public confidence in the justice system depends on the public's ability to observe the processes and decisions of courts, and the fairness and integrity of the process.

Court proceedings, including appeals at the Court of Appeal, are open and public. On occasion, there are restrictions because of a publication ban or an order sealing the file.

Access to Records and Decisions

Recent judgments are published on this site and all published decisions are available on CanLII.

Access to court records can be obtained by request through the Court of Appeal Registry. Visit Filing, Fees and Forms, to access search form requests and fee information.
