The Court is pleased to announce that the Criminal Rules will come into effect on September 1, 2021. These Rules apply to all criminal and provincial offence proceedings, excluding youth proceedings. They do not apply where a Justice of the Peace presides. The Rules have been in development for some time and after significant consultation with justice stakeholders were ready for implementation April 1, 2020. However, given all of the changes that were required to address the emergency caused by the pandemic, the Court made the decision to postpone implementation. The Court is confident that these Rules will help those using the criminal courts to do so in the most fair, efficient, orderly and consistent manner. Members of the Bar will have an opportunity to attend a presentation by Judge Larry Anderson on the new Rules on July 23. Passworded WebEx information is posted at the Judicial Schedules and WebEx Addresses page and will be distributed by the Law Society.
