The Court of King’s Bench will be closed from December 23, 2023, to January 1, 2024, inclusive. On December 28 and 29, 2023, a justice will be available in Edmonton to hear emergency applications for the entire province.
Holiday closure signage will be posted at all Court of King’s Bench locations. Anyone with an emergency application will be directed to contact the Court of King’s Bench in Edmonton at 780-643-1137 (Extension 4), where staff will be available to assist the justice in determining whether the application is truly an emergency and to provide directions on filing documents.
Should an emergency matter need to be heard, a clerk will be on stand‐by in each Court of King’s Bench location. If required, the clerk in Edmonton will contact the local stand‐by clerk, who will arrange to open the courthouse, file the necessary documents, and facilitate the hearing via telephone or video conference.
Please note that only emergency matters will be heard. This decision will be made at the discretion of the justice.
The Court of King’s Bench will resume normal operations on January 2, 2024.
