Effective January 4, 2022, the Court will implement a Justice “URGENT MATTERS CHAMBERS” that will operate every day from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on a pilot project basis.
ALL requests must complete the Urgent Request / FDC Bypass.

Regional Centres: Contact the Court Coordinator for the regional location to determine if a Duty Justice is available. If no Duty Justice is available, Red Deer and other southern locations will send the form to the Calgary
email address and Wetaskiwin and other northern locations will send the form to the Edmonton email address. These applications will be scheduled for 11:00 am.
Urgent Matter Chambers Schedule
For what qualifies as an Urgent Matter, please refer to the Definition of Urgent Matters section at the end of this Announcement.
- Urgent Matters Chambers will deal with Emergency Protection Order reviews at 9:30 am every day.
- Urgent “Without Notice” applications (including restraining order applications and restraining order reviews but excluding service related applications) will be heard at 11:00 am every day.
- Urgent Matters Chambers will also address applications for time sensitive Fiats (on notice to opposing party), and time sensitive Consent Orders. Time sensitive Fiats and time sensitive Consent Orders will be only those that relate to changing
deadlines ordered in Family Docket Court or changing deadlines and other requirements set out in Family Practice Note 2. These applications will be heard only at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm each day. Fiats and Consent Orders must be uploaded
with the Urgent Request Form, and the Clerk will confirm the date and time (11:30 am or 1:30 pm) for your application to be heard.
- Urgent “with notice” urgent applications that have been approved by a Justice, will be heard starting at 2:00 pm. The Urgent Request Form must be submitted with completed but unfiled Application/Claim and supporting Affidavit/Statements.
Please note that if you file materials for Urgent Matters Chambers and do not appear for the Application, your Matter will be struck.

Definition of Urgent Matters
Urgent matters are those in which serious consequences to persons or harm to property may arise if the hearing does not proceed, or if there is a risk of loss of jurisdiction or expiration of an existing protection or restraining order, including,
but not limited to:
A) Family Matters:
Orders where there is a risk of violence or immediate harm to one of the parties or a child, including applications for exclusive possession of a family home where these criteria are met.
Orders where there is a risk of removal of a child from the jurisdiction.
Emergency Protection Order reviews.
Urgent orders relating to parenting time, contact or communication with a child (that cannot reasonably be delayed).
B) Civil Matters:
Orders relating to the pandemic, including quarantine orders.
Injunctions, where there is prima facie urgency, including refusal of treatment/end of life matters.
Civil Restraining Orders.
Urgent Orders in the nature of habeas corpus, certiorari, mandamus and prohibition.
Urgent Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Orders.
